Use the Activity app on Apple Watch

With the "Activity" app on the Apple Watch, you can record how much you move each day, how much you exercise and how much you stand.

Record activity

As a first step, open the app on the Apple Watch and enter some information about yourself. Apple Watch lets you know when you've achieved your goals and provides suggestions and encouragement to help you close your rings. Learn how to close each ring below.


The ring "Move" shows how many activity calories you have burned so far. Achieve your daily exercise goal by burning activity calories every day. Activity calories, unlike resting calories, are those that you burn off by standing or moving. Find out how you can collect points for "moving" and "exercising".

For users up to 13 years of age, the "Exercise" ring shows how many minutes the user has spent actively moving.


The "standing" ring indicates the hours in which you got up and moved around the room for at least a minute. Achieve your daily standing goal by getting up once an hour twelve times a day and walking around for at least a minute. Even if you stand all day, you still have to walk around a little.

When you have indicated that you are a wheelchair user, the "standing" ring becomes the "rolling" ring. The "Roll" ring shows the number of hours that you have been driving your wheelchair for at least one minute.

Change activity goals

You can always adjust your goals to better align them with your activity level.

  1. Open the Activity app on the Apple Watch.
  2. Swipe up, then tap Change Destinations.
  3. Tap to increase or decrease the number of active calories for your daily exercise goal, then tap Next.
  4. Tap to increase or decrease the number of minutes for your daily exercise goal, then tap Next.
  5. Tap to increase or decrease the number of hours for your daily standing goal, then tap OK.

Check activity history

You can check the daily progress on your Apple Watch or the entire history in the fitness app on your iPhone.

On the iPhone

  1. Open the fitness app on the iPhone.
  2. Tap the Activity tab to see details of the day's activities. A green dot will appear on the calendar next to the days you exercised.
  3. To see more details, tap a day.
  4. To view information about a workout, such as your route or the total distance, tap on the "Workouts" tab and then on the relevant object. *

On the Apple Watch

  1. Open the Activity app on the Apple Watch.
  2. Swipe up to see details about each ring.
  3. Swipe up again to see more information, like total steps, distance traveled, or workouts.
  4. Firmly press the screen to view the weekly overview. Then tap on "Weekly Overview".

Create reminders

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the My Watch tab, then tap Activity.
  3. Select your notifications and reminders. For example, coaching messages are based on your progress so far.
