Cats of different colors have different behaviors

Khao Manee

The Khao Manee is a graceful and muscular short-haired cat and has a pure white, smooth, close-fitting coat. The ears are medium to large in size and the nose is gently curved. Eye color is the most noticeable characteristic of this breed and ranges from blue to amber, yellow or green to a mixture of blue and one of the other colors. In Thailand, Khao Manee with different eye colors are considered the best and are often given away as lucky cats. Sometimes white kittens are born with a small, darker mark on the top of the head, but it disappears after about a year. This is completely normal.

The Khao Manee (pronounced "Kau Mania") is a rare breed of cats from Thailand that is said to be hundreds of years old. It is mentioned in Tamra Maew (the Thai "Book of Songs about the Cats", approx. 1350-1767) as Khao Plort (which means "all white"). The name Khao Manee is Thai and means "white jewel," with jewel referring to the eye-catching eyes of this breed of cats. It is reported that it was bred by the nobility. In Thailand it has the status of the fourth major Thai cat breed, alongside the Siamese, Burma and Korat cats.

White Gem, Khao Plort ("all white")

Khao Manee cats have a reputation for being active, outgoing, communicative, intelligent, and playful. They love people, purr magically and have beautiful voices.

A connection could be made between the white coat color, blue eyes and deafness. Not all blue-eyed, white-haired, short-haired cats are deaf, but there is an increased likelihood. Cat associations and the Khao Manee Cat Club recommend that cats registered for breeding be tested.

Every cat is unique and has individual preferences when it comes to cat food. Depending on age or lifestyle, certain nutrients are particularly important. You can determine this with the body condition guide.

The Khao Manee is an easy-care short-haired cat. Like all cats, this breed needs regular vaccinations, parasite treatments, and annual health checks.

Suitable breeds for children

While this breed of cats is not necessarily known for getting along well with children, it may still be possible that this breed can live in a family with good training and acclimatization.
